I know that it is slightly off topic, but is related. I recall a video upload about Alex Hong and that he had a tour of South Africa set to occur this past July 2024. I am not able to find the video. I want to know how it went if it did occur on that timeline. Just curious about what might have occurred.

An excellent performance by Levi Farrar on the flugelhorn and the trumpet sounds like a big band sound. He has an excellent mentor in you. The song is beautiful.

The interwoven medleys that you would select for performances such as these were unmatched anywhere else on television and still are. The presentation of Paul Williams and Marilyn McCoo together was pure musical gold. By way of the date of December 5, 1981, that would be the second season and the first for Marilyn on the show. I have to admit that I first found out about Marilyn McCoo through "Solid Gold", then many years later, in 1991, made the connection that she had been part of The Fifth Dimension upon the purchase of the audiocassette of their "Greatest Hits On Earth" album from 1972. That I had an initial introduction to Marilyn McCoo through "Solid Gokd" was more likely because "Solid Gold" was geared to my age demographics and I had been born during the latter part of their Fifth Dimension era. Marilyn McCoo had been in two bands before The Fifth Dimension, The Hi Fis and The Versatiles. She has had considerable versatility in her ability to sing so many musical genres. "Solid Gold" was fortunate to have all their singing co-hosts and singing hosts and on the female side, was very fortunate to have both Marilyn McCoo and Dionne Warwick to have graced the "Solid Gold" stage. Thanks, Michael, for being the musical guiding force behind "Solid Gold" and for the upload that evoles wistful nostalgia.

It is good that the Prince appearances on "Solid Gold" are beginning to make their way on UA-cam. Your upload here is very clear in audio and video. The voiceover artist previewed a movie over part of the end credits roll and mentioned a channel 13. Was that, by any chance, KCOP-TV Channel 13 Los Angeles? I had first watched "Solid Gold" on that station and in 1983 it was still airing "Solid Gold" on Saturday evenings. I think that the airtime had switched from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in 1983. I know that as a first-run syndicated television series that "Solid Gold" aired at different times and on different stations and was not a network series. That gave it a chance to be aired on different weekend days in some television markets and aired twice on the same weekend. That made ot even better than a network series. It is unfortunate that Prince passed on too soon in 2016. His song, "Little Red Corvette", as performed here, is said to be the inspiration behind the melody of the Stevie Nicks song "Stand Back", also released in 1983. Prince played keyboards, I think, during the original studio recording of "Stand Back". Stevie Nicks performed that song on "Solid Gold" in 1983. After Prince passed on, she paid tribute to him in her concerts. The loose connection between "Little Red Corvette" and "Stand Back" did not make much news in 1983, but certainly has since. It was nice to hear the Rex Smith-Marilyn McCoo "Solid Gold" theme here, but too bad that the tape cut off before it and the credit roll had completely concluded. As usual, a wonderful performance from "Solid Gold". Please keep the videos coming as you wish. They are enjoyable, entertaining, educational, and a part of television and music history.😊

Marilyn McCoo had so much versatility in musical genres as co-host and host of "Solid Gold". Your musical arrangements brought out the best in every performer, including the singing hosts. These uploads make it seem to have been a lot more recent.

Thank you, Michael, for unearthing this magical gem of a bravura performance by Rex Smith and Marilyn McCoo, who made a dynamic duo as co-hosts of the 1982-1983 season of "Solid Gold". The Michael Jackson song "Beat It" I have not ever seen performed as a duet. They really jazzed it up and made it uptempo. Obviously, I missed that episode from July 2, 1983. Rex and Marilyn did a lot of great duets on the show. They had a musical director who was the best in the business, yourself. You had a knack for bringing out the best in every singer in every arrangement, solo or duet or group. It was an energetic performance that pays homage to the original by the gone-too-soon Michael Jackson. These are as if they are from a time machine and you are like a musical archaeologist finding these old gems. The clarity of the videotape and the sound is remarkable considering it is from 41 years ago and had been originally still in monoaural sound. I sincerely hope that "Solid Gold" eventually gets a box-set full ssries DVD release eventually. These are such outstanding performances. Thank you for the upload. The energy appeared to be in high gear for that performance.

I have been a fan of Sinatra ever since I listened to him on the radio when I was young in the late 1940s. I do not agree with how great his voice was when he was much older. He was a smoker and I think that had a negative effect on his voice. He was at his best in his early days.

They had some great duets. "Get Closer" and my personal favorite, "Don't Fight It". They looked like they were really enjoying themselves when they sand up-tempo songs.

Beautifully arranged. Interesting to put One Less Bell as a counter-melody to Loneliness. What gave you that idea? It works so well! But maybe it works because of outstanding arranging. And that was down to you. Marilyn McCoo also looks even more stunning than usual.
